Option Key gives no more choice for any startup drives

Since yesterday I updated to Mojave Beta 3 on the 2nd partition of my (built-in) Fusion Drive (iMac late 2014, El Capitan as boot partition), pushing the option key is without any effect at startup.

This means that the 2nd internal partition with the newly updated Mojave PB3 as well as both external drives with clones of El Capitan and installation of Mojave PB3 are no longer accessible.

Resetting NVRAM
  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R.
  3. Turn on your Mac.
  4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys immediately after you hear the startup sound.
  5. Hold these keys until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for a second time.
  6. Release the keys.
